I believe we need to teach tatting to the next generation to keep it going. We must share knowledge and wisdom without being critical. People may tatt from a book, it is the knowledge of a artisan that I crave. I wish I could look at something and tatt it without a pattern or help from someone. People who can design and write patterns are unique.
Here is a lovely display case for tatting and crochet thread. If you went to the store to purchase tatting thread in 1940's you would have seen something like this. It is a wonderful display unit with various colors used in 1940's. I must say it is one of my favorite things in my collection that I have purchased. Can you imagine this display in your local store? I believe we need to teach tatting to the next generation to keep it going. We must share knowledge and wisdom without being critical. I was also gifted some vintage Star Tatting thread by a great aunt and I absolutely love it. It is wonderful to work with. It is smoother, does not twirl, tangle or bunch. I have been working with both Star and modern threads size 80 for almost 10 years and the vintage Star thread is by far my favorite. Star Tatting thread is made by The American Thread Company which closed it's doors in 1975 so it is no longer being made.
